How to compress an image
- Add your images. Drop JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC files onto the box above.
- Pick settings. Lower quality or a smaller max size makes files smaller. The defaults work well for most photos.
- Download. Each file shows how much smaller it got. Save them one by one or as a ZIP.
Which settings should I use?
For photos you want to email or upload, a quality of 70–80% and a max size of 1920 px usually cuts the file size by more than half with little visible difference.
WebP gives the smallest files and works in all modern browsers. Choose JPG if the file must open everywhere, including older software.
Why your files stay private
Most online tools upload your files to their servers. This one does not. The tool is downloaded into your browser once, and every file is processed locally on your phone or computer. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it keeps working.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.
How much smaller will my photos get?
It depends on the photo. Phone photos often shrink by well over half with a max size of 1920 px and quality around 75%. Each file shows the exact saving.
Why did a file not get smaller?
Some images are already well compressed. If the result would be larger than the original, the tool keeps your original file.
Does compressing remove location data?
Yes. Compressed images are saved as new files, so GPS location and other metadata are not copied over.
Can I compress PNG screenshots?
Yes. For the biggest savings choose WebP or JPG as the format. PNG is lossless, so saving it again as PNG rarely makes it much smaller.
